Balsall Common Primary School has served the local community for almost 90 years. The school has naturally changed and developed most significantly over the last few years, reflecting the great period of growth within the village during that time.
There are currently 655 pupils on roll, including 60 part-time Nursery pupils. The school facilities are quite outstanding and the size of the school means that, in terms of staffing, we can provide expertise in every curriculum area and meet positively the expansive demands of the National Curriculum.
Most importantly, Balsall Common Primary School provides a hardworking, happy, yet well-disciplined environment with a very committed staff and high standards. Despite its size, the school has always maintained a strong family atmosphere, with very supportive parental involvement. It is in every sense a school serving the community, and with many extra-curricular and weekend activities taking place on the site.
The school has an excellent swimming pool which is used extensively during the week for class lessons, as well as for out of school activities. Our Reference Library was created in 1987. In 1989, a music room was established to cater for the specialist as well as class needs within the school. In 1999, an Information and Communications Centre was created, largely funded by the National Grid for Learning, with support from the Governors, which has greatly enhanced ICT capability of all pupils.
Recent and proposed housing development in Balsall Common necessitated the development of a new wing for the school which includes a large studio area as well as additional classrooms and a purpose-built Special Needs Room.
The school has other important facilities. Floodlit playing field facilities allow evening sports practices and events to take place throughout the year. The school also possesses Design and Technology, as well as Art resource and working areas, and a courtyard within the school is currently being developed as an enclosed garden area through local community sponsorship. The village of Balsall Common itself is one of the school's best and easily accessible resources. The school regularly receives visitors from the local community to talk about their lives and work, whilst classes also visit the local churches, shops and farms as part of their National Curriculum Work.
