Absence From School
If your child is absent, or you wish them to visit the doctor or dentist, please let us know by letter or telephone first thing in the morning. All absences require a written explanation. We are now governed by law on declaring unauthorized absences, and parents are governed by law in being accountable for their child's absence- a prompt explanatory note to the class teacher is all that is usually required.
Illness
If your child needs medicine, please do not send the bottle in with the child (asthma inhalers are the exception and may be left with the child's class teacher) as accidents can and do happen. You are welcome to come and give your child medicine if necessary but staff are NOT permitted to administer medicine. In cases where the child has been sick or has had diarrhoea, please keep them at home for 24 hours after the last bout of sickness, even if they appear to have recovered. It is so easy in the school for infection to spread unless we are all prepared to take care.

Headlice
Headlice are a constant problem in all schools. Please check your child's hair and scalp and wash their hair regularly. Medication (available from your local chemist) should be thoroughly applied to your child's hair and scalp and a headlouse detection comb used on the wet hair. Please ensure that your child is free of headlice before they return to school. Tell friends and relatives who may have had contact in order to avoid reinfestation. Only treat the people who have live headlice. For further information please contact the School Nurse Jill Hubbleday via the school.
