 Foundation 1 (Nursery)

Nursery summer house and garden

On our school site, but detached from the main building, is a purpose-built Nursery Unit. It is a 30-place unit, which allows us to accommodate 60 children on a part-time basis from the surrounding area.

In Foundation 1 we aim to provide a happy, secure and stimulating environment in which your child can develop as an individual. Through structured play and good discipline, we hope to aid all aspects of their development- social, emotional, physical, intellectual, language and aesthetic. Most importantly, within the Nursery year we hope to "lay the foundations for learning and living".

Nursery- Clay and dough manipulation

The Nursery is staffed by one full-time teacher and one full-time and two part-time Nursery Nurses. During the course of the year, the staffing is further supplemented by students, who, under the guidance of the permanent staff, provide another valuable asset to the unit.

Applications For Admission to the Nursery

  1. Parents do not have to be resident in the Borough but priority will be given to those living in the Borough of Solihull.

  2. Applications can only be received from parents of children who will be aged 4 during the school year (1 September - 31 August).

  3. Application forms are available from the school in the November/December of the year preceding the child's entry into the Nursery Unit if parents have not already received a form direct from the Local Authority.

Foundation 2 (Reception)

Reception roleplay

In Foundation 2 we aim to provide a high quality integrated early education and make a positive contribution to children's early development and learning by ensuring that all children feel included, secure and valued. In order to achieve this the foundation stage, which incorporates Nursery and Reception, is organized into six areas of learning;

  • personal, social and emotional development;
  • communication, language and literacy;
  • mathematical development;
  • knowledge and understanding of the world;
  • physical development;
  • creative development.

Recption- play in the sand

Foundation 1 and 2 liaise continually and follow a six termly plan to ensure continuity of progression in order to establish expectations and achievement of the early learning goals. At the same time Foundation 2 children are involved in Key Stage 1 assemblies and play in the Infant playground alongside the older children. This familiarity with the staff and children and some of the routines of Key Stage 1 ensures a smooth transition at the end of their Foundation Stage.

Reception handwriting

The Foundation 2 classrooms and a shared communal play area offers a learning environment which provide opportunities for role-playing, painting, model making, cooking, sewing, playing with sand and using computers. There are also quieter areas to encourage reading, writing and listening skills. There are regular sessions for the children to engage in physical play; in the school hall, the studio, the swimming pool and in the playground where they are encouraged to use large and small apparatus, express themselves to music and learn water safety and swimming.

We welcome parents into our school and like to establish a working relationship in the Foundation Key Stage. We value any help or information that supports the learning opportunities provided for the children and have regular parental volunteers to assist with painting, sewing, cooking, gardening, playing games, reading and accompanying us on walks or trips.
