We do not have a specific list of school rules. The children know what they can and cannot do and these are matters of common sense and safety.

  • All children are expected to wear school uniform
  • Children are expected to conduct themselves with consideration for others at all times, in the classroom, other work areas and playground, showing the highest level of politeness and good manners
  • Children are expected to walk, not run, around the school building
  • Dangerous objects (knives etc.) must not be brought into school
  • We do not allow the dropping of litter, or any action that may lead to damage of the school, school equipment or school environment

Relationships within the school are based on mutual respect, both between teachers and pupils and between the children themselves. The highest regard is paid to issues of honesty and kindness, just as it is towards hard work, determination and perseverance. There are very few major infringements of our expectations of pupils in terms of their behaviour. Where children do misbehave beyond the disciplinary procedures that operate within the school, parents are notified immediately by the Headteacher and appropriate action taken.

We are keen to encourage positive attitudes within the school and there are many forms of commendation and reward given by both class teachers and at a whole school level. The Head regularly commends and rewards pupils. This might e for the quality of their work or for thoughtful, caring actions. Each month a presentation is made in both key stage assemblies of the Helen Lewis Friendship Trophy (donated in memory of a former pupil) to an infant and junior pupil who have shown an especially high level of thought and kindness to others.

Commendation ribbons are presented to Year 5 and 6 pupils for Achievement, Attitude and Effort. Similar ribbons are awarded to year 4 pupils. Children in Year 3 and 4 receive certificates and children in Reception and Key Stage 1 have a "Well Done" voucher system for rewarding excellent work, behaviour and sporting skills.
